Hi Runners! Maybe fall has arrived now. It was a beautiful week. I just love this time of year, becoming crisp and cool. Monday night was our last night at the Intelliplex, and Gretchen made good on her promise (or so she says!) of running the 3 mile course under 24 minutes. She showed us her watch; however, no one was there to confirm that she didn’t stop the watch before it hit 24 minutes but was still running. I guess we’ll have to give her the benefit of the doubt! She did bring a friend. Welcome to George who works at the McNeely office. Everyone survived the new Wednesday night course that took off from Major Hospital. A few found a 7 mile course while the majority stuck with the 3 miles that took us to Westar and back (including the infamous “Hale hill”.) This will prepare you to take on the “From Hale and back” 1 mile run on Saturday evening October 25 to benefit the Animal Shelter. Check out the details on our website at www.energy2action.com. Saturday morning several people showed up all with different goals in mind for their morning training. Clark started early and ran 20. Mike, Lynn, Tammy, and Marilyn ran at Ft. Ben. Julie, Nate, and Shane ran 22 miles. The Sara(h)s ran 10. Gretchen survived. I was back on the bike for the morning and rode 50 miles. Everyone seemed to be fine with the new meeting time. Next week, be prepared to follow the new course. In fact, a professional route marker person came in from Runner’s World, spent a week at the Comfort Inn, studied the town, the grades, inclines and declines, normal wind patterns, winter temperature averages, and traffic patterns. After many days of measuring and marking, the route person has formulated the PERFECT running route!
Training: We’re at the Middle School on Monday night (beginning now! October 6) at 5:30 for our long night, 3-7 miles. You should have no problem remembering the route. There is just a slight change in the first mile. In fact, I HOPE you remember the route, because it is only marked to the 4 mile point. Mike and I attempted to run the entire course Friday morning to get it marked, but at 4 miles the spray paint AND my foot gave out. After seeing the doctor on Friday afternoon, the only orders I received to prevent this from happening in the future is to stop running with Mike! Wednesday we’re meeting in front of Major Hospital for 3 mile night. Saturday morning we’re on the circle at 7:30 (please note the later start time). New route is marked and ready!
Racing: Lots of opportunities to race on Saturday: Phi Psi 5K at Butler University at 11AM. At 1:00PM there is an AIDS 5K run/walk downtown. At 9:00AM you can run the trails at Southwestway Park with the DINO folks. The annual Spotlight on Nursing 4 mile run/walk takes off downtown at 9:00AM. And, there is a 5K race in Carmel beginning at 9:00AM.
Update: Karen and baby Jaylee are home from Guatamala and getting to know each other. She’s looking forward to getting a jogging stroller and getting back to running soon.
Happy Birthday to Jeremy sometime this month! I don’t have the exact date yet, but we’ll get it figured out soon!
Happy Running!
